The Park Hyatt Siem Reap & Life and Hope Association (LHA) Sewing Training School Background
LHA established the Sewing School in 2006 with the owning company of the Park Hyatt Siem Reap, when it was still the Hotel de la Paix, to open doors to new opportunities for women and girls between the age of 17-35 years old from the surrounding villages in Siem Reap.  The core purpose was to train them in providing sewing skills for the period of 1 year, so that the girls can generate sustainable household income and support their families.

Such economic opportunities include: Taking advantage of the tourist trade in Siem Reap to gain employment as seamstresses in Park Hyatt Siem Reap and other local hotels; Sell their handsewn products to tourists and guests in the Park Hyatt Siem Reap; Get contracts from local businesses, most commonly for uniforms, but due to COVID also stitching face masks that will be given to guests in the hotel; Start their own business venture and work at a Tailoring Shop.

Armed with these new skills, each sewing school student will have the opportunity to participate in cross training and internships in the hotel housekeeping department, stitching face masks, uniforms, etc which could lead to future job roles in the hotel and lifelong careers in the hospitality industry.
